Service · Remote interpretation (RSI)
Online simultaneous interpretation for events that happen on screen
RSI — Remote Simultaneous Interpretation — is simultaneous interpretation delivered from a distance, with the interpreter working from a remote studio and feeding the translation directly into the videoconferencing platform's audio channel. Participants choose their language and listen in real time, with nothing to install beyond Zoom, Teams, or Meet itself. STIB has offered this format since RSI first reached the Brazilian market, with the same certified team that works our on-site events.
What's included
How remote interpretation works in practice
- Certified conference interpreters — the same team of professionals who work our on-site events, scheduled by language pair and technical field.
- Integration with your event's platform — Zoom's native interpretation channel, or RSI-provider integration for Teams, Webex, Google Meet, and custom streams.
- Two interpreters per language — same logic as on-site: rotating every 20–30 minutes to maintain accuracy from start to finish.
- Technical test in advance — audio, connection, and channel checks for every interpreter before the event starts, to avoid surprises live.
- Technical support during the event — real-time monitoring of the stream and interpretation channel.
- Pre-event briefing and glossary — the same terminology preparation as on-site, sent to interpreters in advance.
Comparison
On-site or online — what actually changes
| Criterion | On-site | Online (RSI) |
|---|---|---|
| Audience | Gathered in the same physical space | Distributed, connected remotely |
| Equipment | ISO 4043 booth, console, receivers | Interpreter's studio + event platform |
| Logistics | Setup, equipment transport, crew travel | No travel — just platform configuration |
| Booking lead time | 3–4 weeks recommended | Can be arranged on shorter notice |
| Best for | Congresses, trade shows, ceremonies, events with a live audience | Corporate meetings, webinars, events with participants across multiple cities or countries |
Many events don't choose one or the other — they combine both. If your event has an in-person audience and remote participants at the same time, see also hybrid event interpretation.
- Event with multiple live tracks?
- If your event has several simultaneous sessions in the same physical space — no booth, headset-based — that's silent conference, not RSI. The STIB group runs a dedicated site for this format: stibpalestrasilenciosasp.com.br.

Cost factor
What determines the price of remote interpretation
As with on-site, there's no fixed rate card — scope drives the price. With this information, STIB returns a fixed quote within 24 hours.
- Language pairs
- Each additional language means another channel and another pair of interpreters.
- Event duration
- A one-hour meeting costs differently than a full day with multiple sessions.
- Platform used
- A native channel (Zoom) is simpler to configure than integration via an external RSI provider.
- Number of simultaneous sessions
- Events with parallel tracks require more than one interpreter team at the same time.
- Technical field
- Medical, legal, or financial terminology requires an interpreter specialized in the topic.
- Recording and deliverables
- Recording the interpreted channel or subtitling afterward are billed separately.
Frequently asked questions
What organizers ask most about RSI
Do I need to install any software to hear the interpretation?
No. Participants use the same platform as the event (Zoom, Teams, Webex, or Meet) and select the language on the interpretation channel. No extra app is needed on the listener's side.
What internet connection is recommended for the interpreter and the organizer?
The interpreter works from a studio with a stable connection and, whenever possible, link redundancy. On the organizer's side, a wired or stable Wi-Fi connection is recommended for whoever is streaming the event — instability on the speaker's end affects interpretation quality as much as instability on the interpreter's end.
Does RSI work for hybrid events, with part of the audience on-site?
Yes. In that case the setup combines on-site elements (a booth or local system, if there's an in-person audience) with the remote channel for those joining from a distance. See more under hybrid events.
Can I book with shorter notice than on-site?
Generally yes, because there's no equipment transport logistics or crew travel. But availability of interpreters specialized in the event's topic remains the limiting factor — the earlier you reach out, the more team options you have.
Is remote interpretation quality comparable to on-site?
The interpreter team is the same, with the same certification and preparation standard. The difference lies in the dependence on a stable internet connection on both ends — on-site doesn't carry that risk factor, online does.
