STIB · Simultaneous Interpretation

Frequently asked questions

What event organizers ask most

What is simultaneous interpretation?

Live interpretation delivered at the same moment the speaker talks, by conference interpreters. The audience listens through a receiver in the language of their choice, with no pauses on stage.

What is the difference between simultaneous and consecutive interpretation?

In simultaneous mode, the interpreter speaks at the same time as the speaker and the event runs on schedule. In consecutive mode, the speaker pauses for the interpreter, which doubles the speaking time.

Why two interpreters per language?

The cognitive load of simultaneous interpretation makes accuracy drop after 20 to 30 continuous minutes. International practice is to assign two interpreters per language pair, rotating at that interval.

Does STIB provide the equipment?

Yes. An acoustically insulated booth, interpreter console, transmitters, headset receivers and a technician in the room are part of the service. If the venue already has a fixed booth and sound desk, the scope is adjusted.

Can I rent only the equipment, without interpreters?

Yes. Equipment rental is an independent service, with or without a STIB technician on site.

Do you work online?

Yes. Remote simultaneous interpretation (RSI) integrates with Zoom, Teams, Webex and Google Meet, with no travel. Attendees install nothing beyond the event platform.

What is a hybrid event?

Part of the audience is in the room and part joins remotely, at the same time. The on-site setup and the remote channel are synchronized. See hybrid events.

What is a silent conference?

A format where several tracks run in the same space, without a booth, and each attendee listens through a headset to the channel of their choice. See silent conference.

Where does STIB operate?

On-site service with interpreters and equipment at the venue in São Paulo, Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, Recife and Campinas, with in-house logistics in other Brazilian capitals. Remote service anywhere.

Which languages are covered?

More than 40 languages, with interpreters assigned by language pair and by the technical field of the event. When there is no direct interpreter between two languages, relay is used through a pivot interpreter.

How far in advance should I book?

Ideally three to four weeks. Urgent requests are handled subject to interpreter and equipment availability.

How much does it cost?

There is no fixed price list. The price depends on language pairs, duration, audience size, technical field, venue and infrastructure. With that information, a fixed quote is returned within 24 hours.

Do interpreters receive the event material in advance?

Yes. Presentations, glossary and participant names are shared ahead of time for preparation, which reduces terminology errors.

Does AI replace the interpreter?

In casual conversation it can help. In a critical event it does not: machine translation struggles with accents, room noise, overlapping speech and niche terminology.

How do I request a quote?

By WhatsApp, phone or email, with the date, languages and number of attendees. See the contact page.
